I am a chronic migraine sufferer. I have been on daily therapy as well as narcotics to treat flare ups. The thing that helped me the most was modifying my diet. I don't use any caffiene and limit my intake of simple carbohydrates. It has made a remarkable difference in my quality of life.

Miracle cure
I suffered constantly from debilitating migraines for several years when I found a friend of mine who worked at a organic food store chewing on potato peels(organic, of course) whenever she got a headache. I tried this for my migraines and it worked like a switch! The pain was gone. I have to say that the pain stopped with fifteen seconds or faster. Take that, Advil & Tylenol!
Migraines and diet
I experience intermittent migraines and have for the last 20 years. One of the things that I know triggers migraine onset for me is red wine. I avoid it at all costs. The allergy specialist I saw told me to take an Alegra before drinking red wine - why take a pill to take a drink? It is much simpler to just drink white. I have not noticed other dietary triggers (caffeine or nitrates or carbs) - but lack of food at regular intervals will trigger migraine. I don't know whether I would try to stop drinking caffeine if it did trigger migraine. As it is, the migraines come every few months, and the caffeine is continuous.
migraine relief
I have suffred from migraines for the past 7-8 yeras. My opinion is that the beast thing you could do is to understand your pain - What triggers the pain?, what brings relief?, how can you avoid it?. Every individual will have a different answer to these questions. I know that skipping meals triggers migraine in my case, so i try to eat regularly. also Coffee makes it worse whereas tea helps to relax the pain temporarily. Sleep well and Eat healthy and regularly - that's my motto
I have to agree with sidney.
I have to agree with sidney. Finding out what triggers a migrain and what can help it is the first step to relief. I am like you, I can not drink red wine what so ever as it causes me a terrible migrain. The same goes for certain other alcohols. I just stay away from anything that I know will cause me pain because it's really not worth it. Once you learn what makes you feel bad and what makes you feel good then you are well on your way!
