I suffer from Fribromyalgia and degenerative disc disease. I used to take a lot of pain meds, but I ended up with a brain cyst that messed with my head, and taking the meds made it worse. So right now, I am only taking over the counter like alleve and ibuprofin. But lately, the pain is getting out of control again and I need to go back on something. Any suggestions for something that will not mess with your cognitive or memory processes?

AnnieHt1: I’m not sure of

AnnieHt1: I’m not sure of your age or if this will be relevant to your situation but on the off chance that it will, I’m posting it ?:

For the last several years, I’ve experienced a lot of spinal, hip, back, and hip muscle pain. I sought the help of a chiropractor and had some relief. However, I was recently prescribed hormone therapy (for symptoms of menopause) and, to my surprise, have notice a marked reduction in pain.

I'm only 42 and thought that I was too young for serious symptoms. However, I've experienced a dramatic lessening of symptoms since starting the estrogen and progestin therapy.

Managing lung pain

Hi everyone :)

I have chronic lung pain after I was hospitalized with pleurisy and pneumonia a couple of years ago. I had a bad time in hospital and was in the high dependency unit for two weeks and in hospital for five weeks in total. My lung function is now pretty much back to where it should be but I am left with a dull nagging pain in my lungs. The pain is always present but is sometimes worse than others - tiredness, over-exertion, rainy or damp weather seem to make the pain worse.

For pain relief I take paracetamol, or paracetamol and codeine when it gets bad. I worry about the long term effects of taking pharmaceutical pain relief but I don't know how else i can manage the pain.

Any suggestions welcome.

natural meds

Hi my mom has also fibromyalgia, and we have been searching for years for a solution, generally doctors say there's no cure, but we should never give up, nobody deserves to live in chronic pain just because doctors or scientists dont feel like finding a cure, so they prefer to sell millions and million of drugs to keep the money coming, but anyways, i have 3 suggestions : SAM-e , 5htp, or a pain specialist. From what i've read in other places SAM-e helps the brain too you can search on google for the information of this one and 5htp, and they sell them at GNC. And a pain specialist is a doctor who specializes in chronic pain, but make sure he is a certified doctor, my mom has tried the SAM-e and it did help her but she had to stop because it was expensive, we will try the 5htp, and about the doctor soon, and i'll keep posting.

Prescription meds

I currently take oxycontin for my pain, and even though I take 40mg twice a day, I still experience some pain. My doctor has given my hydrocodone for the break-thru pain. The combination of the two medications do work to treat most of my pain, but it leaves me very sedated. If I have to drive anywhere during the day, I cannot take any of the pain meds for fear of causing an accident.
